National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - The Resistance Rewind

December 8, 2017

It's the holiday season, so Chad decided to get together with his family and watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. His lovely wife, Lauren joins him this week for a thorough discussion of the themes surrounding the film and the political and cultural takeaways found throughout. So sit back and relax, and grab your moose mug of eggnog and enjoy the first of several seasonal Overthink winter episodes.

After some quick overview thoughts on Christmas Vacation, Chad and Lauren get into some of the 80s stereotypes of antagonists and how they've changed over the past 30 years (12:15). Then Lauren speaks to the cultural impact and differences of the film (19:15), and the psychology of parenting related to Christmas (23:00). Then they go over Chad's favorite question: Would you want to show this to the president or congress and talk with them about its themes (30:45)? They they end things as usual in the shallow end (43:00). Enjoy!

Each episode of The Resistance Rewind will appear on this Overthink feed once a month, so stay tuned for more in-depth film and political knowledge from Chad!
